How Scottie Scheffler joined Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in record books with PGA win
Scottie Scheffler has now matched golf legends Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus for two records after his 2025 PGA Championship victory.
Scottie Scheffler has joined golf legends Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus for a couple of records after capturing his third career major title at the PGA Championship.
Scheffler, 28, closed with a 71 to see out a commanding five-shot victory on 11-under par at Quail Hollow Club.
The red-hot American is now half way to completing the career grand slam having already won The Masters in both 2022 and 2024.
Scheffler's latest victory now sees him join Woods and Nicklaus in the record books.
Not once, but twice.
According to golf stats guru Justin Ray, the World No.1 joins Woods and Nicklaus as the only golfers to win three or more majors and 15 or more PGA Tour events before the age of 29.
Scheffler also joins Woods and Nicklaus as the only golfers to have won multiple Masters, multiple Players Championships and at least one PGA Championship.
Nicklaus of course holds the outright record for all-time major wins at 18.
Woods is in second place on 15.
Scheffler might be some way from both of those feats, but he certainly has time on his side.
Many golf analysts consider Scheffler has every chance of one day reaching double digits providing he stays fit and healthy, and his famous Scottie Shuffle doesn't wreck his ankles too much!
And who knows, on current form, Scheffler could even compete the career grand slam as early as this summer.
If that is to happen then he will need to first win the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club from 12-15 June.
Scheffler turns 29 the week after that tournament on 21 June.
He has already been installed as a heavy 3/1 favourite for the third major of the season.
Should he win a first U.S. Open title next month, then he will have a shot at achieving golf immortality at The Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland from 17-20 June.
Scheffler is priced at 4/1 to win The Open.
The bookmakers are going 18/1 for Scheffler to complete the career grand slam in 2025.
Scheffler has now been World No.1 for a consecutive 105 weeks.
He has also been the world's best player for a cumulative 140 weeks.
That ranks him in third spot behind Greg Norman in second on 331 weeks and all-time leader Woods on 683 weeks.
Scheffler has also now amassed $81,924,784 in PGA Tour career earnings.
That ranks him third behind Rory McIlroy ($104,967,688) and Woods ($120,999,166).
But of course they are playing for a whole lot more money in 2025 than they did during Woods' prime on the PGA Tour.
Only six players have completed the career grand slam in the modern era.
McIlroy joined the club when winning The Masters last month.
That marked his fifth career major title.
McIlroy joined Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Nicklaus and Woods in the record books.
The Northern Irishman had something of a week to forget at the PGA Championship.
He also refused to speak to the media all four tournament days.
CBS reporter Amanda Balionis took a sly dig at McIlroy during her interview with PGA runner-up Bryson DeChambeau.
