PGA Tour star Max Homa has confirmed he will be "taking a break" from competitive action as he will shortly become a father for the first time.

Homa, 31, has enjoyed another stellar year on the PGA Tour with two victories coming at the Wells Fargo Championship in May and a successful title defence at the Fortinet Championship in September when taking advantage of a shocking collapse from Danny Willett.

The popular American also played a huge debut role in his nation's commanding victory at the Presidents Cup last month when going 4-0-0.

Homa also vaulted to a career-best 17th in the Official World Golf Rankings earlier this month.

But following a tie for 23rd at the CJ Cup in South Carolina at the weekend, Homa, who has now slipped one place in the world rankings to 18th, has taken to Twitter to reveal he is about to hang up his spikes for a short while.

The reason is that he and his wife Lacey are expecting their first child in early November.

Dear Golf
We're going to be taking a break for a little bit. It's not that I don't love u, but it's been a long year and I want to miss u again. Thank u for understanding. Plz beat up on some others while I'm gone. I don't want u to get rusty.
Sincerely
A Tired Golfer

We will, however, definitely see Homa in action at the Hero World Challenge before the end of the year in early December as he has committed to Tiger Woods' annual event at Albany in the Bahamas.

Woods' appearance as a player in the tournament remains in the balance, but it is anticipated that the 15-time major champion will tee it up.
