Rory McIlroy schedule and results 2026: When and where is Masters champion playing next?

Rory McIlroy now plans to take a two-week break from the sport before returning to competitive action after successfully defending his Masters title. 

The Northern Irishman, 36, added a sixth major championship title to his haul on an absorbing Sunday at Augusta National after withstanding challenges from Cameron Young, Justin Rose and world number one Scottie Scheffler. 

Victory saw McIlroy become only the fourth golfer in history to defend a green jacket after Sir Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. 

It was anticipated that McIlroy was going to return to action at the PGA Tour's team event later this month alongside good friend Shane Lowry. 

But McIlroy won't be teeing it up at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this year as it has already been announced Lowry will partner Brooks Koepka at TPC Louisiana. 

His next start will likely be the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral in Miami from 30 April. 

The PGA Tour is returning to the Blue Monster course for the first time since 2016. 

Rory McIlroy's season so far

The Northern Irishman began his season, as ever, in the Middle East on the DP World Tour. 

McIlroy, 36, enjoyed a decent start to the calendar year with a solid top-five finish at the Dubai Invitational.

He did not have his best stuff but surged into contention in the final round, only to blow his chances down the stretch as Spain's Nacho Elvira scooped the title following Shane Lowry's collapse. 

A week later McIlroy teed it up at Emirates Golf Club with hopes of adding a fifth Dallah Trophy to his cabinet at the Dubai Desert Classic. 

McIlroy endured a frustrating week, ultimately finishing in a tie for 33rd at the first Rolex Series event of the year.

He told reporters that he wasn't where he wanted to be with his game, but added: "It's [only] January."

McIlroy made his first start on the PGA Tour in 2026 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. 

He returned to California as the defending champion and played fairly well, but was let down by some sloppy mistakes on the greens, ultimately finishing in a share of 14th place. 

And he showed signs his form is improving as we head into the major season with a runner-up finish at the Genesis Invitational. 

McIlroy finished one stroke behind champion Jacob Bridgeman at Riviera and is still without a win at the iconic venue. 

A back injury forced him to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational before the third round. 

McIlroy's appearance at the 2026 Players Championship was in doubt but he still attempted to defend his title at TPC Sawgrass. 

He made the cut but finished way down the leaderboard in a share of 46th. 

McIlroy then teed it up at the first men's major of the year at Augusta National. He raced into a six-shot lead after 36 holes and held on over another roller-coaster weekend to win his second green jacket.
