Former PGA Tour golfer explains why he lost "all respect" for Patrick Reed

Former PGA Tour player turned commentator Colt Knost has outlined why he lost all respect for Patrick Reed at the 2018 Ryder Cup.
Reed made his third appearance for the stars and stripes when the matches were played at Le Golf National just outside of Paris.
He went into the biennial dust-up with a strong 6-1-1 record following his outings at Hazeltine in 2016 and Gleneagles two years prior. He was also undefeated in the singles.
But then captain Jim Furyk was presented with a problem as, according to reports, several of Reed's team-mates did not want to be paired with him.
Despite earning 2.5 points from four matches with Reed at Hazeltine, Jordan Spieth apparently said he did not want to team up with the LIV Golf pro again.
In the end, Reed partnered Tiger Woods twice in the fourballs and they were swept aside on both occasions by Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari.
Reed explained his side of the story after the matches in an explosive interview with the New York Times.
And that is what the aforementioned Knost took issue with during a recent appearance on the Trey Wingo podcast.
Reed was overlooked by United States captain Keegan Bradley for the 2025 matches two weeks ago in New York.
But an underwhelming performance at the final men's major of the year helped make up Bradley's mind.
Knost said: "He had the opportunity to go out there at The Open and make Keegan Bradley look at his name and think about it, and he went out there and missed the cut. I'm sorry, you had a chance to perform.
"I know his record at the Ryder Cup but there is one thing he did that will never leave him is he threw his team and captain under the bus in Paris.
"Patrick Reed got put with Tiger and he complained, I'm sorry I lost all respect right there. You cannot throw your team under the bus like that, when you're paired with the greatest players of all time."
What did Patrick Reed say?
After the 2018 loss, Reed told the New York Times that he was "blindsided" by Furyk's decision to put him with Woods when he had lobbied to play with Spieth.
Reed characterised Furyk's pairings as a "buddy system" that ignored the input of all but a few players.
He also criticised Furyk's decision to "sit me twice" as he had proven, at that point, to be a thorn in Team Europe's side.
"I don't think that's smart," Reed said. He also took a diplomatic approach to Spieth, saying that he had no issue with who he partnered.
"The issue's obviously with Jordan not wanting to play with me," he said.
"I don't have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it, I don't care if I like the person I'm paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works and it sets up the team for success.
"He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done."
Will Patrick Reed make another Ryder Cup appearance?
Now aged 35, it doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility that Reed could make another appearance on golf's biggest stage.
But it looks like it would prove very difficult, if not impossible, given the events of the past.
Woods is the red-hot favourite to succeed Bradley as Team USA captain and therefore one would assume, given Reed's ties to LIV Golf, that he would avoid picking him.
Reed's best chance would be to secure automatic qualification.
