European Ryder Cup standings: Who is going to Bethpage Black?

European Ryder Cup qualification: Find out which players are in line to qualify for Luke Donald's team at Bethpage Black in New York.

The 2025 European Ryder Cup team is beginning to take shape.

Qualifying for Luke Donald's side began at the British Masters and will conclude at a TBC DP World Tour event in August.

Six players will qualify automatically for Donald's team.

The Englishman - as ever - will also have six captain's picks.

At this stage of the season, Donald will be thrilled with how European players are performing on the PGA and DP World Tour.

Three major championships have been completed and one of them was won by Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy finally ended his 10-year wait for a major championship victory by breaking through at the 2025 Masters.

Victory also meant that McIlroy fulfilled his childhood ambition of completing the career grand slam.

McIlroy will once again be the talisman for Team Europe when they head to Bethpage Black in September.

The 36-year-old became the first player to qualify automatically for Donald's team following the conclusion of the US Open at Oakmont.

Elsewhere, Donald has also seen several members of his 2023 team win this season.

Sepp Straka, Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland have all stepped into the winner's circle.

Austria's Straka captured his second win of the 2025 campaign at the Truist Championship after seeing off a challenge from Shane Lowry

Straka's win - which he described as the 'biggest' of his career to date - saw him vault up the standings.

The Europeans also fared extremely well at the US Open, with four of the 2023 Ryder Cup team finishing inside the top-10.

Robert MacIntyre contended for his first major title but came up agonisingly short to the aforementioned Spaun.

Hovland and LIV Golf recruit Tyrrell Hatton finished third and fourth respectively.

Whilst Jon Rahm posted another top-10 finish in a major.

Elsewhere, Tommy Fleetwood is closing in on automatic qualification.

Fleetwood failed to convert a three-shot 54-hole lead at the Travelers Championship but his runner-up finish saw him leapfrog Hatton in the rankings.

Are LIV Golf players allowed to compete at the Ryder Cup?

LIV recruits Hatton and Rahm have been fined and suspended by the DP World Tour for competing on the breakaway.

Both players have appealed their sanctions and it is understood their cases won't be heard until after the conclusion of the 2025 matches on the outskirts of New York.

Therefore, it seems more than likely that Hatton and Rahm will feature on the 2025 European Ryder Cup team.

Hatton has been playing well on LIV and also fared well at the first men's major of the year, finishing in a share for 14th at Augusta National while he shared 60th place at the PGA Championship.

He secured an invite to next year's Masters Tournament with a brilliant showing at the 2025 US Open but two late bogeys during the final round of the US Open derailed his chances at Oakmont.

Rahm has been a top-10 machine in the LIV Golf League in 2025 and finished in the same position as Hatton at the 2025 Masters.

He also played well at the PGA Championship and the US Open.

Rahm drew level with eventual champion Scottie Scheffler with eight holes to play but collapsed down the stretch at Quail Hollow.

The Spaniard struggled with his putting at Oakmont but rounds of 69, 75, 73 and 67 saw him share seventh place with Scheffler and Sam Burns.

How does qualifying for the 2025 European Ryder Cup team work?

The European Ryder Cup qualification process for the 2025 team has been simplified compared to previous editions.

Here's how it works:

Ryder Cup points list

Instead of the former two-list system (European and world points lists), there is now a single list.

Players earn points by competing in specific tournaments based on a new ranking structure.

Here's how that looks:
