Brian Harman ran away with the Claret Jug for the first time in his career at the 151st Open Championship, but his slow pace of play proved a real turn-off for golf fans tuning into the action at Royal Liverpool.

Harman, 36, led by five shots heading into the final round at Hoylake and he would go on to card a steady 70 to tally 13-under par and win The Open emphatically by six strokes over Tom Kim, Jason Day, Sepp Straka and Jon Rahm

The American put on a tee-to-green clinic all week, especially with the putter as he ran away with the strokes-gained putting statistic.

Heading into the final round, Harman had holed 44 out of 44 putts inside of 10 feet.

That record did come to an end on Sunday, but Harman was still holing putts for fun in the rain en route to becoming the Champion Golfer of the Year.

Harman finished the week having holed 58 out of 59 putts inside of 10 feet.

Golf fans frustrated by Brian Harman's waggles:

It was just the manner Harman went about doing it while over the ball that frustrated plenty of viewers.

Harman's pre-shot routine with the driver sees him take on average 12 waggles over the ball.

One golf fan says he counted up to as many as 17 waggles on one of his shots.

Some of you may recall Sergio Garcia did something very similar back in the day.

Here's a look at a number of tweets from irate golf fans:

Twelve bounces is some kind of record!

Saw this first hand at Renaissance last week; couldn’t believe my eyes! I’d be interested to hear what he says about it.

It was either 16 or 17 waggles. I lost count

Obviously it's working for him, but assuming he makes it into the Ryder Cup it won't go unremarked once a few Peronis have been consumed. If he becomes self conscious about it will be interesting to see.

That's about as crazy as watching Matt Wolff swing

I thought Twitter was glitching. That is crazy.

Every time he does it the clubface gets slightly closer to the ball

Absolute joke, so boring to watch.

Worst Open winner since Ben Curtis

I'd start stroking guys

Shades of Sergio

My poor eyes

Goodness me, get on with it
