Scottie Scheffler has revealed blaring television commentary - of himself - distracted him at the 151st Open Championship.

Scheffler had to work extremely hard to make the weekend at Royal Liverpool, getting up and down at the 36th hole to make the cut on the number at Hoylake.

He would have dreamed about making a charge up the leaderboard on moving day, much like Jon Rahm did on Saturday, but it wasn't to be.

The American World No. 1 posted a third round of 1-over 72, taking his score for the championship to 4-over par.

Scheffler joked that he would need an afternoon hurricane 'and then some' if he was going to lift the Claret Jug this weekend.

It's good to see he still has his sense of humour. But he did reveal something that has never happened to him before in his professional career.

The 27-year-old was stood over a birdie putt at No. 5 when he had to back away. He eventually sank the putt.

Scheffler explained:

"Yeah, that was strange. I was standing over my shot and they had the TV going full volume over there and it was commentating my shot.
"So I heard my name in the distance and I was like, all right, I've got to back off. I've never heard a distraction like that before.
"Usually something that loud it's music or something. Hopefully they turn that down as the leaders get back there. It was very -- I've never been so distracted by something like that before.
"It was pretty funny, just hearing your own name on the coverage. It was a weird moment for sure."

It's not just Scheffler who has been affected by the giant TVs this week.

Max Homa, who played his third round alongside Rory McIlroy, explained it was 'really distracting', adding:

"You can hear the commentators on the broadcast from the big TV, and I was over the ball and one of them said, 'this is too much club.' I did an absolutely awful job of not backing off."
