In the wake of the success of its most famous staff player, Annika Sorenstam, Callaway Golf plans to introduce a set of clubs and a bag, designed specifically for women keen to take up the game.

The company will also include a guide book on how to use them.

The Game Enjoyment System (GES), including seven clubs – three irons, three fairway metals and a putter – a bag and matching headcovers, are expected to be available from July, with a price tag around £450.

The fairway woods, have offset hosels and an ‘open-top’ construction to lower the centre of gravity to help golfers with slower swing speeds get shots airborne more easily.

The irons – long, mid and short – are a similar design to the popular rescue clubs. They have a large square face to instill confidence and assist alignment and a wide, heavy sole also helps increase launch angle. All have GES lightweight graphite shafts, while the putter is a mallet design.

The champagne-coloured bag has a detachable pouch for storing valuables and includes the GES guidebook as a handy reference to getting the most from each club in the bag and identifying potential yardages for each club.

"We think GES is a unique solution to a very common problem - many golfers find the game of golf too hard," says Callaway’s chairman Ron Drapeau. "This is especially true for beginners or those who don’t have the opportunity to play very often. We think GES is an excellent way to simplify the game and make it more enjoyable through innovative design."

The price of GES sets (right-hand only) is yet to be announced but in the US the price tag has been set at $625.
