Summary: The AMP Cell Pro possesses a similar shape to the successful S3 Pro forged iron but features a much shorter blade length - a variation that has allowed Cobra engineers to place more mass behind the sweet spot and produce an even softer feel from the 1020 forged carbon steel head. The long irons are cavity back and the shorter irons are muscle back.
Appearance: The sleek looks of the AMP Cell Pro is an old-school blade lover’s dream. As expected from Cobra and irons used by staff player Rickie Fowler, this club is incredibly stylish with its soft grey back, and orange, red, blue and grey dots nestled innocently in the bottom right corner. The club also comprises an aggressive head shape and I really enjoyed the progressive dual cavity that’s hidden beneath the thin topline with very little offset. The True Temper Dynamic Gold shaft and Golf Pride New Decade multi-compound grip add to the better-player look. 9.5
Feel: When catching the ball out the centre, I was rewarded with a remarkably pure sound at impact. When hitting one out the toe, it subtly told you. There’s plenty of feedback on offer and better players will love that. 9
Performance: This iron is all about workability and that’s something I crave, particularly in the wind. The AMP Cell Pro delivered me with a desired mid-to-high trajectory and adequate forgiveness. Distance was average, but overall, this is a very easy club to maneuver. Several thinned shots also carried better than I expected. 8
Verdict: AMP Cell Pro rewards solid swings with predictable results and that can only aid confidence. Not the longest player iron in this test but a real solid sound at impact, sexy looks and impressive workability. 26.5
Pro Verdict: The first thing I notice when picking up this club is that it’s head heavy and there really is no room for error with its small head. This iron is all about feel as all the weight is at the bottom. Although it’s head heavy, however, it feels nice during impact and I feel like I can control the ball well. I also love the feedback you gain at impact. This club is certainly for the very low handicapper; a double-digit handicapper would likely struggle.
